When we’re not borrowing books, our go-to place to buy is always Storytellers, Inc. in St Annes! We’re hooked on their genuine passion for literature and reading and that’s why we’re so excited to welcome them to Family Day for our 10th anniversary…
Katie Clapham, proud owner of Storytellers Inc., lets us know what we can look forward to on Family Day
WP: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
KC: We’re Storytellers, Inc. an award-winning independent bookshop in St. Annes. We opened in December 2010 as a children’s specialist bookshop but in September 2014 we expanded into a general bookshop. We run monthly book clubs for all ages from 6 to 100 and we frequently bring published authors to local schools and to our book club events. We have also held some mini-festivals bringing five or six authors together for a day of themed events; our Midsummer Mystery day last June was for our 8-14 middle-grade readers and our Spinster Sunday in February 2016 was a friendship and feminism event for teenage girls (plus mums and grandmas). You can read more about our events on our blog.
WP: What are you most looking forward to about the Family Day?
KC: We can’t wait to meet all the families and see the other activities and entertainment that will be there – it is a big day out for us too, and we’re especially excited to see the big pig!
WP: What can we expect to see on the day?
KC: It is fantastic to have been asked to work with Blackpool Libraries and be part of the Wordpool Family Day. We will be there at the beautiful Stanley Park with our Storytellers, Inc. pop-up shop, bringing a lovely selection of books for all ages to show that little words make big ideas!
WP: What was you favourite childhood read?
KC: When I was small my absolute favourite was the Winnie-the Pooh stories by A. A. Milne. My Dad loved reading it them to me at bedtime, or we’d listen to Alan Bennett reading it on cassette – Dad would laugh more than I did! When I was older I loved Roald Dahl, especially Matilda and as a teenager, Louise Rennison’s books about Georgia Nicholson had me in stitches. I’ve always been a voracious reader but my childhood favourites are books I still count as some of my favourites today!
Check out the Storytellers Inc. website with details about all the different book clubs they run (Little Book Club for 6-7s, Junior 1 for 8-10s, Junior 2 for 11-13, Teens and Adults). It’s kept up to date with all their events- be sure to like them on Facebook too!
